I just don't know what to think of this. A five star hotel in Kabul that sits 300 yards away from one of the city's most poverty-stricken slums?? As I first began to read this piece, all I could think was some American hotel chain moving right in, building some money making monstrosity of a hotel. Reading on, though, I found it somewhat surprising that it was sponsored by a leading Islamic spiritual advisor in an effort to attract business to the city/country.
Also mentioned and pictured is a mall that was recently built. Apparently, Afghani's flock to it every weekend to check out the "moving stairs" and other new sights it provides. I honestly cannot imagine what this will mean for Afghanistan - your guess is as good as mine!?!
